Melissa Boatwright and Sarah Roberts: Military To Civilian
In episode #42 of My 2.0, guests Melissa Boatwright, Global Insights and Technology Leader at LinkedIn, and Sarah Roberts, Head of Military and Veteran Programs at LinkedIn, share their personal stories of career transitions from the Military into Civilian space, including insights from their recently published Women’s Veteran Opportunity Report.
Melissa served as a broadcast journalist in the Air Force, transitioning out of the military to spend time with her mother while her father was deployed in Afghanistan. Her transition, she says, was atypical. She went to school and then quickly got the jobs she applied to. And how that seems to be different for the vast majority of female veterans.
Sarah served as a finance officer in the army and talks about the challenges of leaving the military at the same time as her husband, and how they were told they’d have to pick one of their careers to follow, and that it wouldn’t be hers.
